C7. Web services for modelling and simulation

Modeling and simulation are increasingly becoming collaborative enterprises. We're seeing data, data products, simulation models, modeling results, and repositories of those and other resources being exposed on the web. In previous work and sessions (for example in iEMSs 2012) we've identified three architectural patterns for these web services:

  1. shared development of an object, which can be a conceptualization, a model, or something else
  2. use of distributed resources, which can be for example a data service or a simulation service that several modelers can use
  3. shared support for the modeling process, which can help in managing modeling projects, or automatize some tasks in modeling.

The session would call for contributions studying the role of and possible new needs for standardization, descriptions of and experiences with new and new type of services, and studies on distributed environmental information systems.
