Poster guidelines

Posters may be put up from Sunday 1 December when MODSIM opens. Tape or velcro will be provided. Posters will be taken down after lunch on Thursday 5 December. Make sure you take your poster down if you wish to keep it. Unclaimed posters will be destroyed.

The size of posters should be no larger than A0, preferably in portrait orientation (841 mm width x 1189 mm height).

  • The presentation must cover the material in your accepted extended abstract or full abstract.
  • Place the title of your paper prominently at the top of the poster so people can easily identify your paper. Indicate the:
    1. session title (e.g. A3. Immersive Analytics in Big Data Era),
    2. title (same as your accepted extended abstract or full paper),
    3. authors’ names.
  • Highlight the presenting authors’ name, e-mail, and affiliation in case someone is interested in contacting you for more information.
  • Prepare all diagrams or charts neatly and legibly beforehand in a size sufficient to be read at a distance of 2 metres.
    • Paragraph and figure caption text should be AT LEAST 24-point font (0.9 cm height)
    • Headers should be AT LEAST 36 point font (1.2 cm height).
  • Organize the content on the poster so it is clear, orderly, and self-explanatory. For example
    • Group similar ideas and label these groups in the order that readers should follow (e.g. A, B, C)
    • Include the background of your research followed by results and conclusions.
    • Use texts that are easy to read

Full papers and extended abstracts for MODSIM2019 will need to be formatted in accordance with the Word documentInstructions for authors. Please use the templates provided below.

Please note: you can submit just an extended abstract (max 1 page) or a full paper (max 7 pages, including an extended abstract on the first page). Note we have removed the expression of interest step this year and you are not required to submit an abstract before you submit your full paper.

The extended abstract should be a complete description of the problem area, broad findings and outcomes or implications and should hence be self contained.

The extended abstracts/full papers will be reviewed by independent reviewers and may require revision before publication.

Extended abstracts should be formatted using the same template as the full papers, using the first page only. They can include 300–500 words, plus affiliations and keywords.

Papers and extended abstracts should be submitted in Word or PDF format (if generated from LaTeX).

The instructions for authors, a template file and an example paper are available in Word and LaTeX format.

Note that in 2019 authors have the option to include their ORCID iD. See the examples in the templates. More information about ORCID is at

Find out more about how to submit your paper or extended abstract online.
