×L4. Modelling of erosion and sediment transport in catchments

Suspended sediments undermine water quality, and there are many waterways and water bodies around the world that are threatened by excessive levels of suspended sediment. Suspended sediment in both urban and rural waterways can result from complex relationships between erosion processes (gully erosion and streambank erosion), human activities (e.g., tillage on farms, construction), and sediment transport processes via overland flow.

This session aims to address the modelling of erosion and sediment transport processes in rural and urban catchments. We welcome papers that are about (but not limited to) the following topics:

• Using models to identify sediment sources in catchments (e.g., unmixing models and sediment fingerprinting)
• Approaches for catchment-scale modelling of sediment transport
• Incorporating real-time monitoring data into sediment erosion and transport models
• Projections of sediment generation and transport under land use and climate change scenarios
• Modelling for assessing compliance to sediment level guidelines.
• We particularly welcome case studies on major case study sites such as the Great Barrier Reef catchments, Port Phillip Bay and Westernport Bay.
