Connected to the rapid expansion of solar farms, coupled with steady increase in wind farms, plus associated storage with some of the installations, comes a need for a ramp up of research activities. These can include assessing the resource available, though this needs to be coupled with the demand and also infrastructure already in place or easy to augment. More crucial are probabilistic forecasting of either the resource or directly the output, and managing the interplay between any renewable resource and storage units. There is also the question of estimating the value of forecasting.
